We Have To Talk About Kanye West

While we ostracize other public figures for supporting Trump, and let me preface this now I am not defending anyone here, we gave Kanye a mere timeout for his comments? Myself? I forgot he said any of the things he said and I was very ready for his new album that he released on the 1st. ‘Ye’, which I suggest just asking Alexa to “play Kanye’s new album” instead of trying to pronounce it for her, is a less than 10 track album that I listened to maybe 7 times on Friday.Image result for kanye westKanye West was quoted as saying “Slavery was a choice” but we all seem to have forgotten that after this fire album. But why do we forgive certain celebrities for their toxic behavior and not others? Rihanna and Emma Roberts have both been in the press for being violent toward their partners (yes I know Chris Brown is a piece of sh*t but let us stick to the point here) and the two continue to have budding careers.

West, who is married to media mogul Kim Kardashian has been caught up in his own antics before. Recently the father of two has come out to the public to talk to the press about his mental health and being diagnosed with bi polar disorder. I’m not sure I like the way he is using it to justify any behavior he may have been critisized for but it seems like he still is not taking any blame for it either? I believe that Kanye has an incredible platform to insititute change and inspire youth but he seems confused. While his wife kim is taking the wrong route by only supporting her husband. Now don’t get me wrong, you should support your partner, but there is also nothing wrong with not agreeing with them about everything.

So the question remains: do we forgive Kanye for his actions based soley on the fact that we want to like his music guilt free?
I can’t say I’m proud of how quickly I “forgave” him just to listen to ‘Ye’ without feeling bad about it, and I can’t say I won’t do the same when his collaboration album with Kid Cudi drops. But perhaps we should work as a society to not do things like this to justify bad behavoir? Or just live blissfully unaware and listen to dope music. IDK MAN.
