It has been a hot minute since I dropped a new #TMITuesday interview, and who better to bring this segment back than the Meow Mamii herself.
You know her from Bravo’s Below Deck: Down Under as the endearing deckhand; let’s get into it with Betül Yazici!

1. Did you apply for Below Deck or were you approached/scouted?
I applied for Below Deck completely of my own free will, using my conscious brain.
I probably should have watched a little more Below Deck beforehand, though!
I joined the show during a very difficult period in my life. For me, it was a journey to discover my own limits. And I was sure I was going to be selected.
2. What is the most fun task as a deckhand, and what is the least?
I genuinely love working on deck, but my favorite task is probably washing the boat. I enjoy it so much! Every deck crew definitely has a “washdown playlist,” and for me, it feels like working out while listening to music.

My least favorite task is cleaning windows. I once worked on a yacht covered in windows, so I think I still have a little trauma from that experience.
3. During your travels between charters, have you been able to get any decent kuru fasulye or döner kebap?
I’ve been working outside of Türkiye since 2020, and not a single yacht I’ve worked on has had döner, kuru fasulye, or even anything similar.
I’m in love with Turkish food. Döner and kuru fasulye are my absolute favorites. Honestly, even while I’m writing this, I can feel my mouth watering. I guess that’s exactly what happened to Pavlov’s dog! So unfortunately… no, I haven’t been able to find them.
(And I really, really want to visit Canada—like, really want to! I’ve heard it has incredible hiking trails, and now I’ve also learned about the food. I’m definitely planning to come!)
4. If you could choose one song to be your theme song, what would it be and why?
If I had a theme song, it would be “Heaven Knows I’m Miserable Now” by The Smiths.
It perfectly captures the irony of somehow being miserable both while I’m working and while I’m not. It gives me a safe space to complain a little.
My second choice would be pretty much any Rihanna song.
Rihanna’s music helped me so much throughout my journey of making peace with my body and discovering my femininity. Everyone I’ve worked with knows exactly how I dance whenever one of Rihanna’s songs comes on.
5. Of your cast/crew mates, who do you think would respond to a “meow” from you first?
Oh, that would definitely be Eddie.
I loved how quickly Eddie embraced the idea of meowing back at me. I think we probably socialized more by meowing at each other than by actually talking.

6. What advice do you have for someone looking to get into the yachting industry?
The yachting industry is extremely competitive, and it’s a career where you constantly have to improve yourself.
If you want to be someone employers choose, you need to keep adding new skills and experiences to yourself.
It’s challenging both financially and mentally, but my advice would be to attend every crew event you can, keep up with boat shows, network with people, and always exchange knowledge with others in the industry.
7. Since this is #TMITuesday, can you tell me something about yourself that fans may not know about you?
Honestly, even hearing the word “fans” still feels a little strange.
I think something people don’t know about me is just how funny I actually am.
I’m really funny in my own language, and it’s a little sad that you can’t see that side of me yet.
I’ve always imagined myself sitting on the couch of a talk show making people laugh. I guess I’ll have to join a different TV show for that!
8. Do you keep in touch with any of your Below Deck castmates?
Yes! I still keep in touch with Alecia, Eddie, and Ellie from Below Deck Down Under.
I genuinely adore Alecia.
9. What is a typical day like for you during the off-season?
During the off-season, I spend my days doing everything I wanted to do but couldn’t while I was working.
Since I only have a few months to myself, I try to fit everything into that time.
I’ll wake up, paint while listening to jazz, cook myself a healthy, nutritious meal, go to the gym, take dance classes, and I make sure to go to the cinema or the theatre every single week. I also love going for long walks.
I simply spend that time doing everything I can, filling myself back up with self-care, self-compassion, and reminding myself of my own worth.
10. What’s next for you?
I’m incredibly excited about what’s coming next.
Another journey is waiting for me—one where I’ll once again discover my own limits.
That’s all I want to share for now. As soon as I achieve what I’m working towards, I’ll be sharing it everywhere.
Thank you!
