THIS REVIEW IS DEDICATED TO LEONARD NIMOY. LIVE LONG AND PROSPER.
More often than not a film that is re-released does not usually do as well as hoped. This is not the case for the 1986 horror classic: Chopping Mall. The film was originally released in March of the same year under the title “Killbots“.
If you’re a 90’s kid, specifically Canadian you remember that episode of the short lived but lesson teaching drama “Ready or Not” where Amanda decides she wants to stay overnight and live in the local mall. Similar to this, in “Chopping Mall” 8 teenagers become trapped in a mall. No, Amanda Zimm’s mother does not come to save them, the teens are instead stalked and killed by murderous security robots. With hilarious characters, and 80’s robots this film provides the sci-fi lover with science to mock, and a b-movie/horror lover with violence and corny jokes to keep them satisfied.
Its clear that I’m a huge horror fan, and thus should not come as a shock that I also adore sci-fi so I adored this film. I think this is the perfect film for a casual movie night, and its close to impossible to resist watching a film with the tagline “Where shopping costs you and arm and a leg”
6 killer robots out of 10.
