It’s that time of year again, and if you’re in charge of the kids’ lunches you probably want to stay healthy, but creative. It can be hard to get your kids to eat healthy, but as Camila Alves said in an interview with People Magazine “Put good choices in front of them, and eventually they will start eating it!”
You can still toss in the occasional treat, I fully support the sugary snacks when consumed at a reasonable amount but I have no self control and I’m an adult, legally, so maybe let’s not trust my snack cake views? But I do know healthy snacks, and not just because my best friend grew up with a million siblings and always makes me adorable healthy snacks for when we binge watch TV shows. Here are a few of my favourites:
Cheese, Meat, and Fruit Kabobs:
Easy to make, and toss in a Tupperware container! You can alternatively add vegetables to these as well. Cutting the fruit and cheese into cute shapes will help soothe your creative flare, make the treat more fun and you can use the scraps for a smoothie for yourself 😉
Using flatbreads/tortilla wraps are a great alternative to bread and that typical boring sandwich (except your sammys Mama Sin, they were dope).
Wraps are all sorts of fantastic, and can be easily made for children who are picky eaters, vegetarians or have dietary restrictions. You can even use spinach, or tomato wraps! Try cream cheesewith salmon, almond butter with banana, or tomato with pepper jack cheese.
Carrots with Peanut Dipping Sauce:
This might be a snack better reserved for at home, because peanut allergies are a thing. Check out this peanut dipping sauce recipe from Parenting.com .
If carrots aren’t your child’s thing try celery, or bake some sweet potato fries/chunks and put them on tooth picks for easy dipping!
Be sure to pack a reusuable water bottle in your child’s bag as well, so they can keep hydrated, and always have something to drink if they happen to trade their juicebox for something else.
