The Broadway smash hit from Lin-Manuel Miranda is pulling a reverse Jesus Christ Superstar and releasing an album based on the play.
Miranda teamed up with Questlove of The Roots, and a slew of hip-hop legends to create the mixtape. In a March interview with Vanity Fair Questlove revealed some of the artists on the album:
“So far, Busta Rhymes, Ben Folds, Regina Spektor, Latifah, Common, Chance the Rapper, and others. People are coming out of the woodwork, knocking on the door. Half the songs are cover versions of songs in the show, and the others are interpolations—we’ll take some of this, some of that, and make something new out of it.”
Last week via Twitter, it was announced that Murder Inc alumni Ja Rule, and Ashanti paired up for the first time in over a decade on the album. There’s no doubt that Tony award winner LMM will dominate the charts with this.
