At just 16 this week’s feature is already a star on one of the most successful teen dramas of all time. You know him as Baaz on Degrassi: Next Class, but I got to know Amir Bageria and chatted about fitness, played a few rounds of Hug, Marry, Kill, and obviously we gossip about Degrassi in this all new #TMITuesday.
1. Whats an average day like for you?
An average weekday for me would primarily be filled with school until about 4 o clock. From there I either go to the gym, or play hockey, or sometimes both. Then after that I’ll either complete some work, or watch a hockey game with my Dad. Weekends are similar with some added relaxation. I still go to the gym, and I still play hockey. I go to improv class on Sundays, and I try to work with my acting coach on a bi weekly basis on whatever day I can schedule a session. I try my best to see my friends as much as possible as well. I value my friends a lot, and my days are always brighter when I see them.
2. Degrassi deals with real issues, that real people deal with. Are there any issues you would like to see the show address, even if they already have but perhaps with a new spin on it?
I think that seeing a story about the struggles of being an atheist in a heavily religious family would be fascinating. Even just seeing life through the eyes of an atheist, when religion is still so abundant in today’s society would be fantastic. It’d be something I for one could absolutely relate too, and I know I’m not alone in saying that.
3. Baaz hasn’t really been too lucky in the ladies department, are there any current female characters (or male even) that you think would be well suited for your character?
I’d love to see Baaz and Frankie together. I think they’d be a funny match with how dramatic Frankie is, and how tunnel visioned Baaz is. A lot of solid comedic moments could come out of that relationship, and I think it’d help both characters grow. Plus, I love working with Sara and she’s pretty. Don’t tell her I said that though.
4. Without any spoilers, what can we expect for Baaz in season 4?
You can expect the same old things from Baaz. Some funny moments, some heartfelt moments, and some “OMG WTF IS THIS GUY THINKING!” moments. He’s in more of a supportive role this season, but the entire arc is an interesting one, and I think it will spark an interesting, and necessary discussion.
5. Lets play some Hug, Marry, Kill (mostly P.G for the kids, ya know?):
Lola, Shay & Frankie:
Goldie, Yael & Esme:
6. If I were to cultivate an Amir playlist on Spotify, what songs would be on it?
An Amir Spotify playlist would consist of:
“If I Believe You” -by The 1975
“Loving Someone”- by The 1975
“Give a Little” by Family of the Year
“Hero” by Family of the Year
“Hey Kid” by Family of the Year
“Closer” by Mike Stud
“Fake Love” by Drake
“I’ll Show You” By Justin Bieber
“Everybody Wants to Rule the World”- by Tears for Fears
“Limelight” by Rush
“Eraser” By Ed Sheeran,
“Castle on the Hill” by Ed Sheeran
7. If you could play any character on any show other than Degrassi who would it be and why?
If I could play any other character on any other show I’d play Jugghead Jones on Riverdale. There’s something about him that truly intrigues me. I like the complexity, and mystery, that’s attached to the character, and I think there’s a lot I could explore there.
8. Since today is #TMITuesday can you tell the readers something about you that they may not already know? Something that may surprise fans to read?
Something readers may not know about me is how much I love fitness. I love eating healthy and being active. I spend a lot my free time researching the diets, and fitness routines of athletes and celebrities, and new innovative ways to be healthy. It’s something I take extremely seriously, and something I enjoy learning about.
9. A lot of the time between filming/shots on set everyone (cast and crew) can get a little loopy, and silly. What do you do between takes?
It honestly depends on the scene. If it’s a really intense scene, I kinda isolate myself from everyone as much as I can, and I try to maintain the mental state that’s required for an authentic performance. If it’s more of a lighthearted scene I’ll often be walking around conversing with the cast and crew. Oh, and I’ll almost always be snacking, just ask Jamie about that.
10. What’s next for you Amir?
I honestly can’t say. The past few months have been tough for me. I’m in a weird place that I’ve only ever briefly crossed paths with before. There’s so much I want to do, and it feels like there’s so little time to do so. I certainly want to pursue a career in modeling, as that pertains to my love of fitness. However, first and foremost, I want to continue acting, and I want to do so with as much passion as I can project. I want to go to Los Angles one day, and I want to turn my dreams into a reality. Right now, I hope to focus on what’s truly important to me, and just enjoy being sixteen. Other than that, I don’t know. I’ve always been a “go with the flow” type of person so, as nervous as I am, I’m excited to see where life takes me.
Stay tuned this week, and every week for new posts on thenikkisin.com, and be sure to keep up with Amir and his fitness journey on Twitter!
